Away from the civilization and development nestles a magical place called Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. India’s Tibet, also known as The Last Shangrila, offers the purest experience to humans. The infertile mountains here change their shades every second, making it a sight to behold. The town has attractive monasteries with stunning architecture. The vistas from remarkable passes like Kunzum and Barchala Pass are alluring and peaceful. It’s just those heights that look monstrous, but people here are completely opposite. Their welcoming nature and warm hearts will make you feel at home. Spiti translates to “The middle land”, i.e. the land between India and Tibet. The Bhoti speaking population follows Tibetan Buddhism. One can spot monks in their robes and prayer flags fluttering in the wind all around. Sunshine only for 250 days in a year, this adventure lover’s paradise is the coldest place in the country.
Tabo monastery is one of the most renowned attractions in Spiti. The murals of Tabo monastery are similar to paintings of Ajanta caves in Maharashtra. The monasteries are well-known for their spectacular murals, ancient temples, and several stupas. While the places of interest are endless, so is the cuisine. Spiti at night transforms into a whole new world. At night, the clear sky is full of stars twinkling satisfyingly. The Milky Way graciously carving its path through the constellations. Ah! What a night to cherish. Post Covid-19, escape into nature has become essential. Is there any better place than Spiti? A place with a populace of around 35 to 200 individuals under the shadow of enormous mountains. Spiti Valley is indeed nature’s most beautiful godsend!
